DAVENPORT — With the aid of a few big innings, Davenport North’s softball team recorded a sweep of Clinton in Mississippi Athletic Conference action Thursday.

North led the first game just 2-0 before erupting for four runs in the fourth on its way to an 8-2 victory.

The Wildcats had 14 hits in that game.

Bailee Stauffer had two hits for Clinton and Brittany Edfors knocked in both runs.

In the second contest, a three-run outburst in the third frame and four-run inning in the fifth propelled the Wildcats to a 7-2 win.

Clinton managed three hits in the game, with two coming from Lindsey Thornton. Whitney Miller added a double.

Thornton and Lea Wiersema accounted for the team’s RBIs.

Clinton pitcher Courtney Kadner pitched a six-hitter and struck out three.

“Courtney hit her spots well,” said Clinton coach Renee Shovlain. “She got North to hit a lot of groundouts and popouts. Defensively we did a decent job,” she added. “Between the two games there were just a few innings where North broke out.

“But again it comes down to our hitting,” added Shovlain. “We’re having trouble putting anything consistent together.”

With the win, North evens its MAC mark at 5-5 while improving to 12-9 overall.

Clinton, 0-10 in the MAC and 3-17 overall, plays another conference doubleheader Monday when Davenport West visits Chancy Park. The first game starts at 4:30 p.m.
