GOOSE LAKE — The Northeast Rebels made it two games in a row as they kept their opposition from getting into the end zone, as they improved their record to 2-0.

Last week they took a 41-0 decision from the Camanche Indians and last night they did it again with a 40-0 win over the North Cedar Knights who are now with a 1-1 record.

The Rebels took advantage of some fine running by senior Jake Dever as he scored two TDs in the first quarter, the first on a 23-yard run and the second on a short two yard dash as they jumped out to an early 13-0 lead.

Dever also carried 15 times for 87 yards, while Matt Clark had 37 yards for 10 attempts. Howe completed nine of 11 passes for 186 yards and two TDs.

The Rebels really had everything going their way, both on defense and especially kept the offensive game going as they scored three times in the second quarter.

Dever picked up his third score on a six yard run early in the second period to make it 20-0 with 7:52 showing on the clock.

Shaun Eberhart recovered a Knight fumble on the 40-yard line and on the very next play Howe connected on a 40-yard pass play to Eberhart given them the ball at the 20 yard line.

Three plays later Howe hit Ace Diedrich in the end zone for a 5-yard pass and again the kick was good to make it 27-0 with 4:24 left in the first half.

The Rebels had their passing game really going well as Howe connected to three different players, Mike Lorenzen, Diedrich and Krogmann, who caught a 17-yard pass for the fifth TD of the game to give them a 34-0 lead at halftime.

The Rebels kicked off to open the second half but the Knights failed to get a first down and was forced to punt and they got good field position and they continued to move the ball both in the air and on the ground.

Matt Clark had several running plays and finally broke into the end zone on a four yard run with 6:22 still left in the third quarter giving them a 40-0 lead.

Under the new 35-point rule the clock would continue to run for the remainder of the contest.

Northeast will be home again next Friday when they host Edgewood-Colesburg with the frosh-soph game starting at 5:125 followed by the varsity game.

The Rebels won the frosh-sophomore game by a 20-6 score.

“It was a really nice win as we were ready to play tonight. All week I’ve been telling the kids that you have your best improvement from week one to week two and they showed that tonight as they came out strong and really executed so much better and was ready to play tonight,” said Northeast coach Jeremy Mosier.
