CLINTON — Northeast High School senior Shawn Johnston has been named the Big East Conference baseball Most Valuable Player.

Johnston was named a first-team, all-conference pitcher. He was 5-0 with a sparkling 2.33 ERA in conference games in helping the Rebels to their fifth conference title in six years.

Northeast had two other first-teamers in senior Nick Mohr and sophomore Jordan Howe.

Bellevue Marquette and Calamus-Wheatland each had a pair of first-teamers. Marquette’s first-teamers were seniors Ryan Engelman and Casey Kettmann. Calamus-Wheatland’s first-teamers were senior Kirby Rock and freshman Ryan Powers.

Other area first-teamers included Camanche senior Tyler Cozzolino, Preston senior Branden Michel, East Central junior Devan Henfrey, Bellevue sophomore Jordan Ries and Andrew junior Corey Manders.

Northeast’s Jeff Howe was named coach of the year.
