DAVENPORT — Quad Cities rallied twice to knock off the Clinton LumberKings 9-6 Thursday at John O’Donnell Stadium.

The winners scored three runs in the second inning, only to see Clinton rattle off four in the third.

David Paisano led off the third with a bunt single, moved to second on a groundout and went to third on Jose Vallejo’s single to left.

Vallejo stole second and John Whittleman walked to load the bases, and Chad Tracy followed with an RBI single to center.

Mauro Gomez then hit an RBI single to right and K.C. Herren followed with a sacrifice fly. Manny Pina later hit an RBI infield single to make it 4-3.

Quad Cities tied it with a run in the bottom of the third, but the LumberKings responded with two in the fourth.

Lemon led off the fourth with a walk and scored on Whittleman’s line-drive double to left.

Whittleman later scored when Tracy reached base on an error.

The good times were short-lived, though, as the Swing took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and added solo tallies in the fifth and seventh frames.

Elvis Hernandez (4-3) earned the pitching win, while Jon Hollis (1-2) suffered the loss.

The teams conclude their series with a 7 p.m. game tonight. Clinton opens a four-game set at Kane County on Saturday.

L-King Note ... Leadoff man and center fielder Craig Gentry is heading to the disabled list with a sprained knee after colliding with Quad Cities catcher Chris Grossman earlier this week. Two-time LumberKing Ian Gac will take his place on the roster.
