Christian Rowan shot his lowest score of the season, as did his Clinton High boys golf team Monday on the way to a sixth-place finish at the North Scott Invitational at Glynn’s Creek Golf Course.
Rowan, a senior, placed sixth in the medalist race with a 3-over-par 75. Nate Burgess of Davenport North shot the low round, a 1-under 71, and Muscatine won the team title with a 302 total. Clinton shot 324.
“(Glynn’s Creek) is where the district meet will be,” Niedermeyer said. “Christian shot 75 there last year, too, so obviously he likes the course.
“I was happy with two or three of them. (Rowan) definitely had his season best, so did Steven Davis (79) and Connor Hood (82). Team-wise, it was our best. We’re getting better.
“I hope it’s an indication of things to come. Getting three scores (that were solid was good), we just need that fourth to get in there and compete.”
Rowan’s round featured three birdies, nine pars and six bogeys.
“He hit 12 greens in regulation, which is pretty good,” Niedermeyer said. “We have a putting-par stat, and his was two, which is really pretty good. It shows how good his short game was.”
Hood had a pair of birdies and seven pars, while Davis made one birdie and had nine pars.
