CLINTON — The Clinton River Kings began Mississippi Athletic Conference baseball play on the right note Friday with a doubleheader sweep of Davenport North at Alliant Energy Field.

The River Kings eked out a 5-4 win in the opener and followed with an 18-15 victory.

In the opener, David Lakin led the offense with a double and single. Tanner Skiff also doubled.

In the nightcap, Clinton trailed 8-4 before erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth for an 11-8 lead.

North tallied six runs in the top of the sixth, but the River Kings countered with seven in the bottom of the frame.

Ryan Clausen, Chris Perrin and Ryan Hovey each had two hits for the winners, who benefited from six North errors.

Lakin, Clausen, Perrin and Dustin Carpenter all had two RBIs.

“I’m happy to come away with a sweep,” said Clinton coach Trent Snowden, whose team is 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Mississippi Athletic Conference. “In the second game we battled back from a large deficit, lost the lead again only to battle back and win the game. Ryan Hovey really did a fantastic job on the mound.”

Clinton plays a twin bill at Pleasant Valley on Monday.

North dipped to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the MAC.
