DES MOINES — Central DeWitt’s Lindsay Smith earned first-team honors in Class 3A and Preston’s Tiffany Bormann was a third-team pick in 1A as the Iowa Newspaper Association announced its all-state girls basketball teams today.

Voting was conducted Saturday by newspaper reporters at the state tournament.

Smith, a 5-foot-10 sophomore who was named to the third team as a freshman, averaged 15.6 points a game for the 19-4 Sabers this winter. She also had 128 assists, 105 rebounds 62 steals and 22 blocked shots. She shot 44.6 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free-throw line, and she made 36 of 100 3-point field goals.

Bormann, a 6-1 senior, averaged 16 points and 11.1 rebounds a game, for the Trojans. She made 58.1 percent of her field-goal attempts, shot 66.3 percent from the free-throw line and blocked 43 shots.

Also picked for the first team in 3A was Davenport Assumption’s Alyson-Spinas Valainis, the Player of the Year in the Mississippi Athletic Conference.

Davenport North’s Amber Harrington, who scored 52 points against Clinton on Feb. 3, was a second-team pick in Class 4A.

Amanda Zimmerman of Huxley Ballard was named Miss Basketball. The 6-foot-2 Iowa State recruit was named to the Class 3A first team for the fourth year in a row. She averaged 16.1 points and 6.2 rebounds a game for the Bombers, who won the state title last weekend.
