Fulton spotted Kewanee two runs in the top of the first inning Thursday in Three Rivers Conference softball action, but the Steamers took control from there.

Fulton (6-11, 4-4 conference) scored five runs in the bottom of the first and cruised to a 13-3, six-inning win.

Kendra Williams pitched all six innings for Fulton, striking out five and allowing only one earned run. Williams also hit a home run and drove in two runs.

“We are playing very well right now,” Fulton coach Jen Pepper said. “The girls are hitting the ball throughout the lineup. If one struggles, another steps up.”

Six Steamers drove in runs in the win.

“We still have work to do, but I am proud of the progress we have made and the confidence of the girls,” Pepper said.

Thunder lose first NUIC game

LANARK, Ill. — West Carroll suffered its first conference defeat of the season Thursday, falling to Eastland 3-1 in Northwest Upstate Illini Conference softball.

Eastland pitcher Marissa Harris allowed one run on four hits while striking out 12.

“Marissa Harris was really the key to this game,” West Carroll coach Don Mathey said. “Taylor Ruter also had a big game for them.”

Ruter accounted for half fo Eastland’s four hits, both doubles. She also drove in a run and scored a run.

The Thunder (13-7, 7-1 conference) had three of their four hits in the fourth inning, when they scored their only run.

Eastland (13-6, 7-0) scored one run in the first to take an early lead. After West Carroll tied the game in the top of the fourth, Eastland scored two in the bottom of the fourth to reclaim the lead.

“It was a good ballgame,” Mathey said. “We would be more competitive if we could put the bat on the ball more.”

Morrison tops Alleman

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Rock Island Alleman must wish Thursday’s softball game against Morrison was a three-inning affair.

Alleman led the Fillies 5-0 after three innings, but the Pioneers couldn’t score again. In the top of the fourth, Morrison’s offense came alive.

The Fillies (15-4), ranked 12th in the Illinois Class 2A coaches poll, scored six runs in the fourth and added two more in the fifth to earn an 8-5 come-from-behind victory.
