It wasn't the greatest of days for the area wrestlers in Class 2A until a pair of Central DeWitt wrestlers hit the mat.
After an 0-4 start for the area contingent, Tom McClimon and Creighton Fox of Central DeWitt both won first-round matches Wednesday night at the Iowa Class 2A state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena.
McClimon won by injury default against Tom Malloy of Williamsburg at 215 pounds in a rematch of the WaMaC Conference finals. McClimon, who lost to Malloy in the conference meet, shot in for a takedown when Malloy injured his knee and couldn't continue.
Fox, a junior, beat Clinton Eichinger of Ballard 10-5 at 285 pounds.
Northeast's Tyler Schoon (103) and Forrest Marx (189) and Maquoketa twins Shiloh (135) and Dakota (140) Snyder all lost both first round and consolation matches.
Davenport Assumption has the first-day lead in 2A with 25 1/2 points, two more than Ballard of Huxley.
