Several girls are repeat picks to all-area basketball elite squad

CLINTON — Different year, same look.

That’s the story with the 2007 Clinton Herald All-Area Girls Basketball Team, as four of the first-team selections were also members of the elite unit in 2006.

Repeat first-teamers include Lauren Ryan of Prince of Peace, Abby Vock of Morrison, Jordan Davis of Maquoketa and Megan Johnson of Andrew.

Rounding out the elite team are Clinton’s Devvin Rolston, Prince of Peace’s Tori Isenhour and Prophetstown’s Emily McLain.

Ryan and Isenhour guided the Irish to an 18-5 record and share of the Big East Conference title.

Both were also on the Big East Conference first team.

Ryan, a 5-foot-8 junior, averaged 14.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals this season.

Isenhour, a 5-11 senior, was selected third-team all-state in Class 1A by the Iowa Newspaper Association. She averaged 10.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game.

She was a Herald second-teamer last year.

Rolston, a 5-10 senior, led Clinton to a 15-8 mark this season and share of second place in the Mississippi Athletic Conference.

A second-team MAC pick, she averaged 9.5 points and 7.3 rebounds a game.

Johnson was the Big East Conference player of the year while earning first-team all-state honors in Class 1A by the INA.

The 5-10 senior averaged a double-double of 13.9 points and 10.8 rebounds while leading the Hawks to a 21-4 mark, share of the league title and state tournament berth.

Davis, a 5-4 senior, was a first-team WaMaC Conference East Division selection.

A versatile player, she averaged 9.0 points, 4.6 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals a game.

Vock has collected many honors recently, including being named the Herald’s 2007 area player of the year and Three Rivers Conference player of the year.

A unanimous pick to the Three Rivers team, the 5-7 senior guided the Fillies to a 14-0 league mark, 24-9 overall mark and regional title.

She averaged 12.3 points, 3.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game. Vock is the third-leading scorer in Morrison history with 1,217 points.

McLain, a 5-7 junior, was a unanimous pick to the Three Rivers Conference team.

A Herald second-teamer last year, McLain averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.8 assists per game.

Under her guidance, the Prophets turned in a 26-4 record.

SECOND TEAM

n Whitney Miller, a 5-6 junior from Clinton: A second-team Mississippi Athletic Conference selection, Miller averaged 6.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.9 steals a game.

n Tiffany Bormann, a 6-1 sophomore from Preston: Bormann averaged 15.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while helping the Trojans to a 12-9 mark. She was a first-team Big East Conference pick.

n Katie Tenboer, a 5-9 senior from Morrison: Tenboer was a first-team Three Rivers Conference pick while averaging 9.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 assists per game. She is the ninth-leading scorer in Morrison history.

n Ashley O’Neill, a 5-6 junior from Calamus-Wheatland: A third-team all-state pick by the INA, O’Neill averaged 10.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals a game. She was a first-team Big East Conference selection.

n Lindsey Knake, a 5-8 senior from Bellevue: Knake guided the Comets to a 14-8 overall mark and 9-3 record in league play. A first-team Big East selection and Herald second-teamer last year, she averaged 15.4 points and 5.0 rebounds a game.

n Lyndsey Haxmeier, a 5-6 junior from Bellevue Marquette: Haxmeier, a second-team Big East Conference selection, averaged 12.0 points and 4.0 steals a game while helping her team to a 16-7 mark and 10-2 record in league play.

n Amber Greer, a 5-10 senior from Prophetstown: Greer, a unanimous Three Rivers Conference selection, averaged 13.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals a game.

THIRD TEAM

n Brooke Craig, a 5-3 sophomore from Prince of Peace: Craig averaged 9.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game while earning second-team Big East Conference honors.

n Bree Willis, a 5-11 senior from Camanche: Willis averaged 10.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while helping the Indians to a 12-11 mark. She was a second-team Big East Conference pick.

n Kelsay McCausland, a 5-11 senior from Camanche: McCausland, the 2006 Herald area volleyball player of the year, averaged a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds a game. She was a second-team Big East Conference selection.

n Whitney Andersen, a 5-4 senior from Preston: Andersen averaged 11.4 points and 4.1 assists per game while earning second-team Big East Conference honors.

n Rachel Ward, a 5-8 senior from Morrison: A second-team Three Rivers Conference pick, Ward averaged 7.4 points, 3.0 assists and 2.2 steals per game.

n Courtney Grutz, a 5-9 senior from Bellevue: Grutz averaged 11.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals a game. She was a second-team Big East Conference pick.

n Tara Kilburg, a 5-6 senior from Andrew: A second-team Big East Conference pick, Kilburg averaged 8.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. She was also a Herald third-teamer last year.
