L-Kings take series finale

By Ted Schultz
Herald Sports Editor

LANSING, Mich. — The Clinton LumberKings finished their series at Lansing on a good note Monday, posting a 6-2 victory over the Lugnuts at Oldsmobile Park.

Chad Tracy sparked the winners by going 3-for-5 at the plate with a homer, two doubles and career-high four RBIs.

Glenn Swanson (5-1) added a solid pitching outing, scattering five hits and allowing two runs over six innings. He fanned seven during that span.

Brennan Garr and Brett Zamzow followed with three hitless innings of relief pitching.

Nathan Starner (2-4) was tagged with the loss.

Tracy got his team off to a great start by belting a two-run homer to left in the first inning. That scored Craig Gentry, who had walked.

Lansing scored a run in the bottom of the second before Clinton countered with one in the third as Gentry singled to center and crossed the plate on Tracy’s double to center.

The teams exchanged runs again, as the Lugnuts scored in the fourth and Clinton in the sixth. The LumberKings’ run came when John Whittleman and Grant Gerrard walked before K.C. Herren delivered an RBI single to right.

The LumberKings tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh. With one out, Gentry was hit by a pitch, moved to third on Jose Vallejo’s double to left and scored on Tracy’s double to center.

Vallejo later scored on a forceout.

Clinton opens a four-game home-and-away series with Burlington tonight at Alliant Energy Field. Game time tonight and Wednesday is 6 p.m. before the series shifts to Burlington.
