Camanche girls earn state tennis berths

MUSCATINE — Defending state champion Chelsea Moore of Camanche advanced to another state singles tournament by winning the Iowa Class 1A girls tennis singles and doubles regional title Thursday.

Moore’s teammates Tiana Bark and Ashtyn Dixon also advanced to state as they teamed to claim the doubles title.

Moore, the No. 1 seed in the regional, earned three straight 6-0, 6-0 wins in her title run. Bark and Dixon were nearly as dominant. They did not drop a game in the first round, dropped just one in the quarterfinals and again did not drop in game in the semifinals.

Bark and Dixon, also the No. 1 seeds, won their title with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.

“All six of our girls played wonderful tennis,” Camanche coach Erin Montgomery said. “Marlee Hart did great in singles, knocking off the No. 3 seed right away. Steines and Nissen played a tough match against the No. 2 seed.

“Chelsea Moore had another terrific day. She did not drop a game all day on her way to the championship. Dixon and Bark played great doubles all day. They were very excited to advance to state. I’m very proud of how well all our girls played.”

The Indians have a team regional semifinal matchup with Keokuk at Davenport Assumption Saturday.
