CEDAR RAPIDS — The Clinton LumberKings overcame deficits of 3-0 and 6-2, earning a 7-6 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in 10 innings Friday night.
The winning run came when Clinton’s Engel Beltre tripled with two outs in the top of the 10th and scored on Renny Osuna’s infield hit to shortstop.
Cedar Rapids went up 3-0 with two runs in the first inning and another in the second.
The L-Kings made it 3-2 with a two-run third before the Kernels went up 6-2 with three runs in the bottom of the third.
Clinton pulled even at 6-6, scoring three times in the sixth and again in the seventh.
Osuna was 4-for-6 with three RBIs. Miguel Alfonzo, Carlos Dominguez and Timothy Smith also drove in runs for the L-Kings.
Clinton starting pitcher Blake Beavan struggled, allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits over just three innings.
The L-Kings’ bullpen held Cedar Rapids the rest of the way. Ryan Tatusko worked three one-hit innings. Fabio Castillo hurled two shutout frames, and Hector Nelo (1-1) worked a pair of scoreless innings for the win.
The game was the first of a three-game series, which continues tonight at 6:30 p.m. The set concludes Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest.
