L-Kings let 4-0 lead slip away
BELOIT, Wis. — The Clinton LumberKings saw a 4-0 lead slip away in a 7-5 loss to the Beloit Snappers in Midwest League baseball action Tuesday night.
Clinton took early control with a four-run third inning. Andres James reached on a one-out error to get things started.
An error on a pickoff attempt allowed James to move around to third base. Mitchell Moreland then singled to center, plating James.
Jonathan Greene followed with another single to center before Timothy Smith unloaded for a three-run homer to right, making it 4-0.
The lead didn’t last long, however, as Beloit scored twice in both the fourth and fifth innings to pull even.
The L-Kings went up 5-4 with a run in the sixth. With one out Jose Felix singled to center. With two outs Kyle Murphy singled to left, moving Felix to second. Engel Beltre followed with an RBI single to center.
Beloit responded with two more runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-5 lead. The Snappers added an insurance run in the seventh.
Kennil Gomez (8-4) suffered the loss, allowing six runs, four earned, on nine hits over six innings.
The game was the first of a four-game series that continues tonight with another 7 p.m. matchup.
