Northeast wins own baseball tourney

Herald Staff Report

GOOSE LAKE — Jordan Howe picked up the victory on the mound and was one of seven Northeast players to drive in two runs as the Rebels beat Preston 19-3 in five innings Friday to win the championship of the Northeast tournament.

The Rebels (15-8) took a 5-2 lead into the top of the fourth inning, then exploded for 10 runs to put the game away.

Northeast also won by a lopsided score in the semifinals, beating Clayton Ridge 19-6 in another game shortened to five innings. Spencer Lueders had three hits, including a home run, in that one and drove in six runs.

Preston advanced to the final with an 8-6 win against East Central, beating the Raiders for the second time in as many days. The Trojans erased a 3-1 deficit with a six-run second inning.

East Central claimed third place on the strength of a combined five-hit pitching performance from Taylor Keeney and Jared Henfrey. Ben Hildebrandt drove in three runs to lead the Raiders (6-13).
