Area athletes named all-district
River Kings, Warriors place four on elite squads

CLINTON — The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association has named its All-District teams for the 2008 season and several athletes have been honored for their play on area diamonds.
A quartet of Clinton High players have been named to the Iowa Class 4A All-Southeast District teams.
Two players were chosen as first team selections, while two more were second team picks.
Senior Scott DeAngelis was named first team as utility player after making first team as a second baseman last season as a junior.
DeAngelis hit .383 this season and was 5-0 on the mound for the River Kings.
Junior Darryl Sexton was named to the first team as a pitcher. The Clinton southpaw racked up a record of 10-2 on the season and played center field when he wasn’t on the mound.
The River Kings also landed a pair of teammates on the second team after compiling a 24-12 record in 2008.
Senior Jordan Camp was selected for his play in the outfield, while sophomore Jake Mangler was tabbed as the team’s shortstop.
Camp hit .352 from the clean-up spot for the River Kings.
Mangler hit .414 as a sophomore while also seeing some pitching duty for Clinton.
In Class 3A, Central DeWitt had a pair of players receive honors.
Greg Oldsen was tabbed as the Class 3A First Team All-Southeast District second baseman for the Sabers.
Oldsen batted .495 as a junior.
Senior Kramer Steffens was named to the second team as a pitcher after recording a 4-2 record.
Northeast’s Jordan Howe was named a Class 2A First Team All-Northeast District selection as a pitcher after leading the Rebels with a 6-1 record.
Howe also batted .548 in conference play as the Rebels finished 8-4 in the Big East Conference and 19-10 overall.
A trio of Camanche teammates were tabbed as Class 2A Second Team All-Southeast District selections.
Seniors Colton Hilgendorf and Brock Gilbert as well as junior Logan Hilgendorf were honored for the Indians.
Colton Hilgendorf was picked as a first baseman after batting .459 in his final high school campaign.
Gilbert, a third baseman, batted .426 in leading Camanche to a 13-18 overall record and a 9-3 Big East Conference record.
Logan Hilgendorf was the Indians’ ace, compiling an 8-1 record on the mound. Hilgendorf was selected as a utility player after batting .352 as a junior.
Camanche and Northeast each had their seasons ended by state semifinalist, Davenport Assumption.
Big East Conference champion, Calamus-Wheatland, did well in the postseason honors as three Warriors garnered Iowa Class 1A First Team All-Southeast District honors and one received second team honors.
Senior Ryan Mason made the first team as a pitcher. Mason led the Warriors to a 10-2 conference slate with an 8-1 mark.
Logan Goettsch was tabbed as a first team selection as just a sophomore. Goettsch, a catcher, batted .362 for the Warriors.
Conference MVP, Ryan Powers, was selected to the first team as an outfielder. The Calamus-Wheatland sophomore batted .514.
Tim Olson was tabbed by the district coaches as a second team member as a senior. Olson, an outfielder, batted .354 in his last season with the Warriors.
