River King golfers in fifth place at MAC meet

ALEDO, Ill. — The Clinton River King golf team placed fifth in the first half of the Mississippi Athletic Conference (MAC) boys golf tournament on Monday at Hawthorne Ridge Golf Course in Aledo, Ill.

Leading the way for the River Kings was senior Brennen Roling with an 18-hole round of 80. That score was good for a 10th place tie individually for Roling.

Junior Elliott Deering and sophomore Jeremy Miller each tied for 15th individually with a stroke count of 81.

Junior Tony Balk fired a round of 89 to place him in a tie for 39th.

Davenport Central has a commanding lead in the team standings with a score of 302, 23 strokes ahead of co-second place finishers Bettendorf and Pleasant Valley.

The race for second is heated as five teams, including Clinton, are within six strokes of the Bulldogs and Spartans.

Davenport North narrowly edged out the River Kings for fourth place, beating Clinton’s score of 331 by one stroke. Muscatine sits in sixth place, just a stroke back of the River Kings.

Davenport Assumption (338), Burlington (342), Davenport West (353) and North Scott (358) round out the field.

Davenport North’s Owen Ball leads the individual race with a round of 71. Davenport Central’s Ryan Wilson, Ryan Schueter and Mike Maller sit in second through fourth to lead the Blue Devils.

Bettendorf’s Matt Solis and Central’s Matt Schueter tied for fifth with a round of 77 on the par-72 course.

Bettendorf’s Kyle Mock, Assumption’s Ben Burke and Pleasant Valley’s Ben Senftner each shot a 79 to tie for seventh overall.

Freshman Christian Rowan (92) and junior Cameron Harrop (103) shot non-scoring rounds for the River Kings.

The second half of the tournament will be played on September 30, back at Hawthorne Ridge Golf Course.

Clinton will be back on the links a week from today, when they will travel to Dubuque to take on Wahlert and Dubuque Senior at Bunker Hill Golf Course.
