Sikkema, Bly go 1-2, lead Irish to title

BELLEVUE — Drew Sikkema and Riley Bly raced to a 1-2 finish Monday to lead the Prince of Peace boys team to victory at the Comet Invitational cross country meet. Bellevue Marquette won the team title, while Maquoketa’s Trisha Miller ran to the individual title.

“Drew remained unbeaten, and Riley ran a great race against highly ranked Brandt Moore, beating him with a great kick,” Prince of Peace coach Dave Lawrence said. “The rest of the varsity continued to improve, avenging a recent loss to Marquette.”

Behind the 1-2 finish, Prince of Peace won the four-team boys race with 41 points. Maquoketa and Marquette tied for second with 59. Camanche, led by Codie Adams’ fourth-place finish, took fourth as a team with 85.

Katie Flogel led a 4-6-7-8 finish for Marquette, as it won the girls race with 36 points.

Freshman Audrey Griffin broke the school record for Prince of Peace girls. She finished second behind Miller in 16 minutes, 18 seconds. She led the girls team to a second-place finish.

“The girls team got a nice second place behind Audrey’s school record,” Lawrence said. “Katie (Isenhour, 14th) continues to improve, coming off a month off due to injury. Chrissy (Kokjohn, 15th) continues to run well, and our foreign newcomers are getting better every day.”

Prince of Peace also got firsts in the junior varsity race from Konnor Lemke and Brittany Horst.
