Camanche takes 2nd in volleyball meet
MOUNT PLEASANT — Camanche claimed second place Saturday at the Mount Pleasant volleyball tournament.
The Indians swept Central Lee, Highland and Mount Pleasant in pool play and then defeated Fort Madison Holy Trinity 23-25, 25-19, 15-11 in the semifinals before falling to New London 25-22, 21-25, 15-8 in the championship match.
“Our serve reception was shaking. That led to inconsistent setting. That led to less efficient attacking,” Camanche coach Mark Cremer said. “Considering all that, we can’t be too disappointed with the way the day went. We got our first-ever win against Holy Trinity. The New London loss was frustrating, but the kids know that we are capable of playing better.”
Cremer said serving was a strong point for the Indians.
“Ashtyn (Dixon) had 21 aces, and with her own 14 aces, Chelsea Moore broke the single-season ace serve record of 134 aces held by Audrey Everson since 1986,” Cremer said.
