Hess headed to state

DAVENPORT — Clinton junior Libby Hess will be making a lonely trip to Marshalltown this weekend.

Hess was the only River Queen to qualify for the Iowa State Swimming and Diving meet as she took third in the 100-yard breaststroke at a regional meet at Davenport High School on Saturday.

Hess finished the race with a time of 1:10.06, less than a second behind Bettendorf’s Rachael Schermer who won the race with a time of 1:09.64.

Hess qualified with the 14th best time in the event in the state.

As a team, the River Queens finished seventh out of nine teams with 173 points. Bettendorf ran away with the team title with a point total of 511.

Clinton’s 400 freestyle relay team of Taylor Rippon, Katie Kaster, Katie Stanley and Hess gave the River Queens their next highest finish with a fourth place showing. The quartet turned in a time of 4:12.82.
