Ashford women surge after half to pick up win

CLINTON — Kim Fabry drilled a 3-pointer with 12 minutes, 43 seconds, remaining that snapped a 38-38 tie and started Ashford on its way to a 70-51 victory against visiting Timothy Christian College on Tuesday night in college women’s basketball at Kehl Arena.

Kelly Fisher led the Saints (1-1) with 17 points, while Jordan Davis added 14 and Fabry finished with 12. Amanda Learned, Emily Buter and Jennifer Brink scored 11 points each for Timothy Christian (0-2).

The Saints built a 30-26 halftime lead, but Timothy Christian went ahead early in the second half. Later, the visitors pulled even at 38 on a layup by Brink with 13:00 left, seconds after she stole the ball.

But, Fabry countered with her 3-pointer at the other end 17 seconds later, and the Saints had the lead for good. Timothy Christian had a chance to tie when Buter scored with 12:27 left and was fouled but missed the free throw. Davis responded with a 3-pointer for Ashford, which stretched the lead to 46-40 on Fabry’s layup, and the Saints continued to stretch the lead after that.
