Four seniors from Northeast earn 1st-team all-district honors

Four players who helped Northeast tie for the Class 1A District 4 football title were named to the all-district first team that was released Friday.

Seniors Ryan Krogmann, Dan Heiar, Reece Rickertsen and Matt Clark were honored after playing key roles as the Rebels went 7-3 this fall and tied with Maquoketa Valley for the district title with a 6-1 record. The Rebels earned a spot in postseason play, where they lost to Iowa Valley Marengo in the substate round.

Heiar and Rickertsen were key players up front for a Northeast defense that posted three shutouts and allowed just 85 points in 10 games. Heiar led the team with 76 tackles, including six for lost yardage, and Rickertsen ranked third with 71.

Krogmann caught 36 passes for 574 yards, while Clark carried the ball 92 times for 343 yards.

Bellevue’s Chase Junk also was named to the first team. He had 570 yards rushing to lead the Comets. Teammates Ben Giesemann and Jordan Ries were second-team selections, while Kody Sieverding, Mike Peters and Josh Cummings were honorable mention. All but Giesemann and Junk were seniors.

Other Northeast players honored were seniors Shaun Eberhart and Derek Bormann and sophomore Tanner Loots on the second team, and junior C.J. Herrington and seniors Brian Hoffmann and Jordan Howe on the honorable-mention list.

Maquoketa Valley’s Andrew Jay, who rushed for 439 yards and passed for 1,443, was named the offensive Most Valuable Player in the district, while the top defensive honor went to Alburnett’s Matt Strope.
