Prophetstown takes 2nd, Erie 3rd at Cambridge tournament

CAMBRIDGE, Ill. — Elmwood defeated Prophetstown 53-43 in the championship game and Erie edged Williamsfield 56-54 in overtime for third place Monday at the Cambridge tournament.
Nick Almasi, Alejandro Montoya and Andrew Huber spearheaded a fourth-quarter rally that gave Elmwood a come-from-behind victory in the championship game. Elmwood trailed 32-28 entering the fourth quarter, but a 3-point basket by Almasi kick-started the team. Almasi scored nine of his 13 points in the final quarter, while Montoya added six of his team-high 14 and Huber scored seven of his 10.
Anthony Lombardo led Prophetstown (3-9) with 13 points. He scored eight of them in the opening period, when the Prophets built a 19-5 lead.
Matt Pyse scored Erie’s final three points at the free-throw and finished with 18 points to lead the Cardinals. Erie also got two field goals in overtime from Matt Temple (17 points) and one from Jay Jackson.
