CLINTON — Clinton's Opening Day roster for 2017 has a mix of new and familiar faces.
The starting rotation is fairly new, but the lone returner from the defending Western Division champions is Nick Wells.
Wells was 1-9 in 2016 with a 5.55 ERA during his stay in Clinton. Wells was a reliever last season, and in his last 10 appearances, he had a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 27-10.
The other four starters are: Brandon Miller, Ljay Newsome, Tim Viehoff and Danny Garcia.
Miller received three wins among his last 10 appearances last year at Low-A Everett. Garcia was 5-2 in the latter part of the AquaSox season.
Other pitchers returning to Clinton include: Kyle Wilcox, Marvin Gorgas, Ronald Dominguez and Jeffeson Medina.
Clinton will have two new catchers: Nick Thurman and Johan Quevedo.
Returning infielders include Kristian Brito, Rayder Ascanio and Conner Hale. Luis Liberato is the lone returning outfielder.
Second-baseman Bryson Brigman are Luis Rengifo are the the two newbies on the Clinton infield to start 2017.
The average age of the LumberKings on opening day will be 22. Newsome will be the youngest LumberKing at 20 years old with Hale at 24 being the oldest.
The LumberKings will arrive in Clinton on Sunday, and their first game will be Thursday against Kane County for a 4-game home-and-home series.
