CLINTON — Burlington’s bats broke out for 10 runs as the Bees won their third game in a row, defeating the Clinton LumberKings, 10-7, on Friday night.

After Bees’ starter Austin Robichaux retired the first hitter he saw, Chris Mariscal lined a single to center, deflecting off the glove of Michael Hermosillo for an error, placing Mariscal at second. The next batter, Nelson Ward, grounded out to short for the second out of the inning. Kristian Brito doubled off the wall, in right center, scoring Mariscal, putting Clinton on top 1-0 in the first inning.

With the LumberKings ahead 1-0 in the fourth inning, Bees right fielder Caleb Adams smashed a triple to left center field.

After Zach Houchins walked, Fran Whitten singled to center, scoring Adams, tying the game at one. Wade Wass then reached on a walk and then Trevor Gretzky gave the Bees the lead with a bases loaded walk, putting the Bees on top 2-1. Juan Moreno made it a two run lead with a groundout to third, scoring Whitten, extending the Bees lead to 3-1.

Chantz Mack started the bottom half of the inning with a single and moved to third on a double by Gianfranco Wawoe. After a walk loaded the bases, Taylor Zeutenhorst reached on an error, scoring Mack, cutting the Bees’ lead to 3-2. Arby Fields then grounded into a fielders’ choice, scoring Wawoe, tying the game at three.

Erick Salcedo started the top half of the fifth inning with a single and advanced all the way to third on back-to-back wild pitches. Caleb Adams hit a slow grounder to the right side, underneath the glove of LumberKings’ first baseman, Taylor Zeutenhorst, scoring Salcedo, putting the Bees back on top, 4-3. Wade Wass started the top of the sixth inning with a double and then came home to score on a Juan Moreno ground ball, extending the Bees lead to 5-3.

Clinton stormed back in the bottom of the sixth inning, taking back the lead. Chantz Mack led off with a walk and moved to third on a Gianfranco Wawoe double. After a flyout, Taylor Zeutenhorst reached on an infield single, scoring both Mack and Wawoe, tying the game at five. Aaron Barbosa lined a single to right, scoring Zeutenhorst, giving Clinton the 6-5 lead.

Ryan Seiz opened the eighth inning with a towering home run to left, his third of the season, tying the game a six. With one out, Juan Moreno doubled down the right field line and then scored on a Michael Hermosillo double to left center, putting the Bees on top 7-6. The Bees added to their lead, later in the inning, when Michael Hermosillo scored on a wild pitch, upping the advatage to 8-6.

The Bees added some insurance, with two outs, in the ninth inning. Wade Wass grounded up the middle and moved to third on a Ryan Seiz single. Trevor Gretzky upped the Bees’ lead to 10-7, with a single to left center, scoring both Wass and Seiz.
