CLINTON — Seattle Mariners General Manager Jerry Dipoto is coming to Clinton as the keynote speaker for the 2018 Hot Stove Banquet.
The banquet will be Jan. 14 at the Eagle Point Lodge.
Dipoto will be entering his third season at the helm of the Mariners' front office. During his time in Seattle, he has earned a reputation as one of the most active general managers in Major League Baseball. This offseason, five former LumberKings were involved in trades orchestrated by Dipoto including 2017 LumberKings Robert Dugger and JP Sears.
Dipoto's history with roster moves goes back to his playing days. Over a seven-season MLB career, he played for the Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, and Colorado Rockies. During the 1994 season he was one of six players involved in a trade between the Indians and Mets that included Jeromy Burnitz.
Immediately following his playing career, Dipoto moved into the front office working with the Rockies and Boston Red Sox before being named General Manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010. A year later, he accepted the same position with the Los Angeles Angels. In Los Angeles, Dipoto was part of one of the biggest free agent signings in baseball history when he lured Albert Pujols away from the St. Louis Cardinals.
Following a brief return to the Red Sox in an advisory role, Dipoto was named General Manager of the Seattle Mariners on Sept. 28, 2015. Since Oct. 1, 2015, his 35 roster moves are the most in MLB, 13 more than the nearest team, the Atlanta Braves.
All proceeds from the banquet will benefit the Friends of Riverview Stadium who, along with Clinton County Development Association, were instrumental in making the renovations at Ashford University Field this offseason possible. The stadium will be adding a high definition ribbon board, three 75-inch high definition monitors along with several other improvements around the ballpark.
The Hot Stove Banquet will also include a silent auction and raffle that will feature signed items from past LumberKings players along with top prospects in the Mariners Minor League system. All proceeds of the auction and raffle will go towards the non-profit Friends of Riverview Stadium organization.
Doors will open at 6 p.m., with dinner beginning at 7 p.m. Adult tickets are $30 each, $35 at the door, while children under 12 are $15 each, $20 at the door. Everyone attending this year's banquet will receive a complimentary 2018 Clinton LumberKings calendar. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the LumberKings front office at Ashford University Field or by calling (563) 242-0727.
