SOLON — Brad Gannon threw a two-hit shutout Friday as Central DeWitt opened the Class 3A District 8 tournament with a 3-0 win against Clear Creek-Amana.

Gannon allowed a pair of singles — to Kobey Schlotman and Tyler Hallett — and didn’t walk a batter. He finished with six strikeouts.

The Sabers were limited to eight hits by Schlotman, who also walked one and struck out five.

But Central DeWitt struck quickly, giving Gannon the lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Cam Steffens singled with one out and scored on McGwire Eden’s double. Eden then came in on Garret Finley’s two-out single.

The Sabers added an insurance run in the third. Steffens doubled, moved up on a flyout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Austin Weiss.

Central DeWitt will face host Solon in Monday’s district final. The Spartans advanced with a 6-1 win against Mount Vernon in Friday’s second game.
