DEWITT — Four players from Central DeWitt and two from Maquoketa were named to the Class 3A District 4 first team in high school football.

Each team also had four players picked for second-team honors, too, and seven representatives on the academic all-district team.

Seniors Jesper Andreassen, Devin Koester and Drew McNamara, and sophomore Ethan Pierce represented Central DeWitt on the first team. Both of Maquoketa's first-teamers were sophomores: defensive end Isaac Crist and defensive back Ryne Gruenwald.

Andreassen was picked as the all-district kicker after making 4 of 6 field-goal attempts and 10 of 12 extra-point tries. His longest field goal was from 41 yards.

Koester was an offensive lineman for the Sabers, but he also made 25 tackles on defense. Pierce, a linebacker, led the Sabers with 49.5 tackles, including nine tackles for lost yardage. McNamara, a defensive back, had 38.5 tackles.

Crist finished with 27.5 tackles, while Gruenwald had 15 tackles and two interceptions.

DeWitt players on the second team were running backs Nick Smith and Easton Necker, defensive back Drew Deke and wide receiver Max Cousins. All but Necker were seniors.

Smith was the Sabers' top rusher with 524 yards on 110 carries. Necker added 286 yards on 47 carries and caught 13 passes for 219 yards. Cousins caught nine passes for 186 yards. Deke intercepted two passes and was in on 33 tackles.

Senior wide receivers Luke Brame and Arvin Neth, junior linebacker Zac Gavin and sophomore linebacker Abe Michel were Maquoketa's second-team picks.

Michel led the Cardinals with 52.5 tackles, and Gavin was second with 46.5. Neth caught 25 passes for 217 yards, and Brame caught 17 for 167.

Deke, McNamara and Necker also earned all-academic honors for Central DeWitt and were joined by teammates Abram Dierickx, Justin Costello, Grant Fosdick and Hunter Wright.

Maquoketa's all-academic selections were Gavin, Neth, Brame, Nicholas Ehlinger, Conner Schnoor, Noah Walsh and Bryce Hansen.

Davenport Assumption's Jayce Levy was named the district's Offensive Player of the Year, Blake Bradley of Dubuque Wahlert was Defensive Player of the Year and West Delaware's Doug Winkowitsch was named Coach of the Year.
