RCTA tennis, pickleball active in heat

CLINTON — The River Cities Tennis Association hasn't slowed down because of the summer heat, hosting a large 4th of July adult tournament and continuing tennis lessons here in town.

The adult tournament, that was played at the river front tennis courts next to the Clinton Pool, had 32 participants. There was an intermediate and advanced portion to the tournament with both first place medals and runner-up medals.

Cindy Rasche and Deb Olson too the reigns for the tournament.

Each participant was guaranteed two matches, and consolation rounds were played as well.

Cherie Lower and Tim Van Zuiden won the advanced bracket, with Bob Brondyke and Stewart Russell coming in second. Rhonda Kiester and Chris Taylor Bice won't the intermediate bracket with Cameron Weaver and Cathy McDaniel taking the runner-up spot.

RCTA is offering free pickleball lessons on Sunday, July 8 and the same riverfront tennis courts. Rackets and balls will be provided for participants.

On the other side of thing, youth tennis lessons have begun across town at Max Lynn Courts. Elementary begins at 9 a.m., middle school at 10 a.m. and high school at 11 a.m. Evening lessons begin next week at 6 p.m. at Max Lynn Courts and will move inside if weather is formidable.
