Northeast ran its way to the Class B — small schools — title Tuesday at the Camanche Indian Girls Relays, scoring 129.5 points, 27 more than the host Indians, who were runners-up.

The Rebels started the meet with a victory by Josye Kaczinski in the 3,000-meter run and led the entire night. Northeast’s Emily Franks placed third in the opening race.

Northeast won 10 of the 18 events and went 1-2 in both the 100-meter dash and the 100 hurdles. Danae Diedrich and Markel Mommsen grabbed the top spots, respectively, in the sprint event, while Jaci Mulholland and Carlie Dever claimed them in the hurdles.

Diedrich also won the 200. Morgan McAleer (400 hurdles) and Hannah Kilburg (1,500) accounted for the other individual wins for the Rebels. Northeast won the 400 relay, shuttle hurdle relay, sprint medley relay and 800-meter relay. The Rebels set a meet record in the 800 relay, finishing in 1:52.34, .24 seconds faster than the previous record, which was set by Monticello in 2003.

In Class A, Western Dubuque won with 166 points. Maquoketa grabbed second with 106.5, nine points ahead of third-place Central DeWitt. Clinton placed sixth with 62.5 points.

The River Queens won the 3,200 relay, and Kim Kaster won the 3,000.

Central DeWitt did not win any races but grabbed five second places and scored in every event except the throws.

The Cardinals were led by Laura Nuernberger, who won the 200 and 400. Aubree Taylor won the 100 and Laura Osterhaus tied the meet record by clearing 5 feet, 2 inches in the high jump.

The host Indians battled with Preston for second place much of the night, but a 21.5-10 advantage in the two jumping events gave them the edge. Camanche finished 15.5 points ahead of the Trojans.

Much of that advantage came from Camanche sweeping the jumps. Libby Schnoor won the high jump, clearing 4-8, and Sydney Grell won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet.

Schnoor also won the 800, an event she went to the state meet in last season. Kiana Turner won the discus throw for the Indians, while Preston’s Katy Steinbach took the shot put.

Preston’s other victory came from freshman Meghan McLaughlin in the 400.
