DES MOINES — Ashford senior Brian Cummings of Clinton was selected to the Midwest Collegiate Baseball All-Conference first team at third base Monday.

Jake Steve, another Ashford senior, finished one vote shy of first-team honors and was named honorable mention.

“I’m very proud for what Brian and Jake have accomplished in their four-year careers,” Ashford coach John Govek said. “I consider it an honor to have had an opportunity to coach each of them and be here to witness their impact on our growing program.”

Cummings, from Clinton, was a first-team selection and also one of nine athletes to receive Gold Glove Team accolades. He ended his career with a 24-game hitting streak. Cummings led the MCC in hitting with a .437 batting average and paced the Saints in hits, doubles, runs batted in and home runs.

A total of 35 student-athletes were recognized as part of the all-conference teams as voted by the coaches, and nine were chosen to the Gold Glove Team. Iowa Wesleyan’s Frany Cruz was named MCC Player of the Year.
