Preston opens its football season tonight with a Week 0 contest against Meskwaki Settlement School.
The Trojans return a lot from last year’s 10-1 team, whose only loss came in the second round of the playoffs to state semifinalist Tripoli. Preston opens the season ranked third in the state among eight-player teams by the Des Moines Register.
The starting quarterback, Jason Feddersen, and the leading running back, Blake Tebbe, both return to lead an offense that averaged 48.7 points a game last season.
Tebbe rushed for 1,443 yards and 26 touchdowns, while Feddersen rushed for 643 yards and 12 touchdowns. The senior quarterback also passed for more than 1,000 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Preston also welcomes some players, who suited up for East Central last season, including Dylan Rittmer who led the Raiders with 62 solo tackles and 112 total.
Rittmer’s presence should help bolster the Trojans at defensive. Alec Witt had 19 tackles for loss from that position for Preston last year as a senior.
The team’s leader in tackles for loss last season was Keaton Tebbe with 23 as a sophomore.
Meskwaki Settlement School went 4-7 last year and lost in the first round of the playoff to state runner-up Lenox.
Meskwaki lost its leading rusher, Stacy YoungBear, to graduation, but quarterback Vincent Lashley was just a sophomore last year.
Lashley passed for 1,627 yards and 22 touchdowns last season, while running for seven touchdowns.
