Camanche plans Hall of Fame celebration

Herald Staff Report

CAMANCHE — Camanche High School is planning a weekend to remember when it unveils its inaugural Hall of Fame class later this month. But, athletic director Todd Borrison urges fans to start making plans soon for the festivities.

The high school will induct 14 people into the Hall on Jan. 24 and 25, starting the weekend with a night full of basketball games on Friday and wrapping it up with a semi-formal ceremony the following day.

Borrison said five basketball games were on Friday’s schedule, including a varsity girls-boys doubleheader against visiting Bellevue. It’s “Pack the gym” night, and T-shirts will be given away to the first 300 fans in the Camanche gymnasium, so a large crowd is expected.

“Between varsity games, we will introduce the Hall of Famers and unveil a wall of recognition in the Commons,” Borrison said. “After the game, there will be a meet-and-greet at Imperial Lanes (in Camanche), sponsored by the Booster Club.”

The first Hall of Fame class inductees are Klaus Andresen, Dan Bolte, Joe Carstensen, Gary Cross, Audrey Everson, Gary Foster, Alysia (Gonzales) Hill, Sara (Meyermann) Jensen, Jane Montgomery, Mark Reese, Jason Siemon, Bernie Vogel, Barb (Willis) Randall and Rick Willis.

The 14 former athletes and coaches will be recognized again on Saturday, Jan. 25, during an event at Vista Grande Reception Hall, 2141 16th St. NW, Clinton. That event will begin with Social Hour at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 and the awards presentation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Gary Determan of KROS radio station will serve as master of ceremonies.

A social gathering follows from 8:30 to 10 p.m.

Borrison said anyone was welcomed to attend the affair. Dinner reservations ($12 a person) must be made by Monday, Jan. 20, at the Camanche High School athletic office (563-259-3010).
