Prophetstown gets by Byron

AURORA, Ill. — Leave it to Clare Kramer to save the day for Prophetstown.

Kramer hit a last-second layup to beat Byron 55-53 in the Class 2A Aurora Christian sectional final.

Prophetstown had a decent lead at the half, 27-19, but the Tigers clawed their way back to a 38-35 deficit that they would eventually turn into a tie late in the game.

Despite Kramer being the girl who scored the final basket, she was not the leading scorer. Kramer scored 16 points, but Karlie Stafford led the Prophets with 19 points, including seven points in the fourth quarter.

Kramer also scored seven points in the fourth quarter.

Ellie Lehne led Byron with 18 points followed closely by Mayson Whipple on a 16-point performance.
