Seneca ends Prophets' run

---- — PRINCETON, Ill. — A first-quarter upset bid that looked promising fizzled for Prophetstown on Wednesday in a 60-34 loss to top-seeded Seneca in the semifinals of the Illinois Class 2A Princeton Regional boys basketball tournament.

Daniel Shirley, who led the Prophets with nine points, made a 3-point basket and a two-pointer in the opening quarter to help Prophetstown build a 12-8 lead.

Conlan Callahan, who led Seneca with 23 points, made back-to-back 3-pointers to get the Fighting Irish rolling in the second quarter. Alex Bott (14 points) scored six points, and Callahan scored two more as Seneca went ahead 22-17 at halftime. The lead grew to 40-30 after three quarters.

The loss ended a nine-game winning streak for Prophetstown, which closed the season with a 15-14 record.
