---- — Three days made a big difference in the score, but it couldn’t quite change the outcome for the Clinton Community College men’s basketball team.

Making their second trip to Des Moines Area Community College in four days, the Cougars lost in the Region XI quarterfinals Tuesday, falling to the Bears 69-64. Clinton closed the season with a 3-25 record.

It was a much closer game than the teams played Saturday, though, when DMACC clinched the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Division II title with a 90-62 win.

As they did most of the second half of the season, the Cougars showed their opponents they were in for a battle right away Tuesday night.

Clinton led 29-25 at the half and increased the advantage to 42-31 in the first 4:13 of the second half.

The Bears (26-5) made up that deficit over the next nine minutes, but the teams still were tied at 51 with 6:48 remaining.

In Tuesday’s other tournament games, second-seeded Iowa Lakes beat Southwestern 52-36, Iowa Central edged Ellsworth 78-74 and Kirkwood clipped North Iowa Area Community College 75-71 in overtime.
