Wrestling: No. 14 Mustangs split dual meets

MORRISON, Ill. — Morrison won one and lost one dual Wednesday in high school wrestling.

The Mustangs, ranked 14th in Illinois Class 1A by Illinoismatmen.com, defeated Rock Island Alleman 58-24 but lost 51-21 to Geneseo, which is ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 2A.

Cody Vanderlaan (113 pounds) and Austin Keller (152) each recorded two pins for Morrison. Joe Eads also scored an impressive win for the Mustangs at 106 pounds against Geneseo. He defeated Tumbo Tumarello, who is ranked seventh in Class 2A, 7-4.

In a matchup of ranked wrestlers, Geneseo’s Ryan Pitra (No. 7, 182) scored an 11-3 major decision against Morrison’s Austin Shoup (No. 12 at 195).
