Steamers split in Eastland Tourney

---- — EASTLAND, ILL. — Fulton wins its first game against Pearl City, but loses the second game to Polo in the opening day of the Eastland Tournament.

• FULTON 72, PEARL CITY 55

Zach Barber scored 25 points in the big win for the Steamers following gaining momentum in the West Carroll Tournament that was cancelled because of a winter storm. Barber had a perfect game from the free throw line, going 8-for-8.

Kyle Huebner followed closely with 16 points, most of the points coming in the second half.

Fulton had a big defensive stand in the third quarter, allowing only six points in the win.

• POLO 71, FULTON 61

Zach Barber returned with a 20-point performance, but the Steamers ran on fumes from an offensive standpoint, especially late in overtime. Only three other players found themselves on the score sheet led by Matt Dail with 23 points, including seven made 3-pointers. Jake Willging also scored 13 points.

Fulton allowed four Polo players to score in double figures.

WARKINS CARDINAL CLASSIC, ERIE, ILL.

•STARK COUNTY 53, ERIE 41

Erie split up its scoring through four players — Kenneth Cole with 11, then the trio of Owen McConnell, Nich Wildt, and Sean Maloney each had 10 points for the Cardinals in the 53-41 loss to Stark County.

Stark County had a pair of players who scored in double figures. Jake Berchtold and Ryan Daum each had 11 points. As a team, Stark County had seven made 3-pointers.

• WETHERSFIELD 75, ERIE 49

Trevor Lay took control of the game for Wethersfield with 29 points while Kenneth Cole scored 17 points for the Cardinals.

Wethersfield scored 23 points in the first quarter, and followed with 26 points in the third quarter.

• KNOXVILLE 62, MORRISON 43

Morrison had trouble containing Tyler Houston on Thursday night in the first of two games in Erie. Houston scored 32 points that included 11 field goals and shot 7-for-8 from the free throw line. Andrew Hale also scored 11 points for Knoxville.

The Mustangs had two who scored in double figures. Scott Ferry put up 11 points while Kaleb Church scored 10 points. Morrison also didn’t visit the free throw line too frequently shooting just three free throws, missing all three. Despite that, the Mustangs’ highest scoring quarter came in the third with 17 points.

• MORRISON 43, LENA-WINSLOW 42

Hunter Hamstra led the way with 20 points for Morrison in the close, one point win over Lena-Winslow to avoid going winless in the opening day of the tournament.

Morrison was down at the half 28-23, but won the second half battle 20-14.

Kaleb Church and Joey Brackenmeyer each scored eight points for Morrison.
