Indians open with blowout

Camanche builds 40-4 lead

CAMANCHE — Camanche was dominant Tuesday night in its girls basketball season opener.

The Indians led Davenport North 40-4 after three quarters and won 42-10. Camanche outscored North 11-0 in the third quarter and allowed only one first-half field goal. The Indians scored 24 of the first 26 points and, after allowing two more points, ran off 16 in a row.

Kylie Vogel scored 11 points — all in the first half — to lead Camanche and outscore North by herself.

Julia Moore added eight points for the Indians, while Courtney Sowle and Lindsey Grams each chipped in seven.

The Indians return to action Friday when they face Clinton on the opening night of the River Queen Classic.

Erie remains unbeaten

ERIE, Ill. — Paige Rus scored 23 points Tuesday to lead Erie to its fifth straight win to open the season.

The Cardinals beat United (1-2) 51-38.

“Paige Rus had a huge game tonight,” Erie coach Brian Howell said. “United hit some big 3-pointers to keep the game close. I am very happy with the overall effort.”

Rus also grabbed seven rebounds to lead Erie. Des Lawson and Kayla Waggoner each scored nine points and had four rebounds.

Prophets shut down Storm

PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. — Prophetstown held Bureau Valley scoreless in the first half Tuesday night in its Three Rivers Athletic Conference girls basketball opener.

The Prophets (4-1, 1-0) led 46-0 at halftime and won 65-14.

Riley Walters scored 14 points to lead Prophetstown, all in the first half. Corrie Reiley also reached double figures with 11 points all before halftime. Neither of them played in the second half.
