---- — DES MOINES — Central DeWitt had to wait after its 69-67 win over MOC-Floyd Valley to see who it was going to play in the Class 3A state quarterfinals.

Waverly-Shell Rock ended Grinnell’s Cinderella run as the Go-Hawks defeated the Tigers 67-58 in the final game of the night at Wells Fargo Arena.

W-SR, the defending state champion, started the game quick and strong, outscoring its opponent 23-15 in the first quarter. In the first half, the Go-Hawks shot 61 percent.

Grinnell answered the bell in the second quarter by holding W-SR to just nine points.

In the second half, the Go-Hawks attacked the paint and went to the free-throw line often. W-SR shot 18-for-27 from the line.

Jake Velky led the Go-Hawks with 18 points, followed by Sean Westendorf with 17 points. Dan Stensland scored most of his 13 points from the free-throw line.

W-SR committed just two turnovers during the game.
