---- — DES MOINES – With overtime just seconds away, sophomore Danielle Boyd spared the Ashford women's soccer team of having to play extra minutes.
Boyd scored with 5 seconds left in regulation and senior goalkeeper Jessica VanDyke turned aside seven shots to lead the 20th-ranked Saints to a 1-0 win over Grand View University on Thursday night.
The two teams engaged in an evenly played first half, with the Vikings holding a 7-6 advantage in shots. However, no one was able to find the back of the net as VanDyke and Vikings keeper Morgan Buzzell turned aside three shots each.
With the game headed for overtime, senior forward Hollie Babut dashed into the offensive zone before finding Boyd, who beat Buzzell for her second goal of the year and her first career game-winner.
Shots were 18-13 in favor of the Vikings, with GVU's Nicole Pirie leading all attackers with six attempts.
VanDyke turned in her seventh clean sheet of the season as Ashford moved to 11-3 on the season.
Buzzell stopped six shots for Grand View, which fell to 9-5-2.
The Saints will close out the regular season on Tuesday when they travel to Davenport for a 1 p.m. meeting with the 25th-ranked Queen Bees of St. Ambrose.
