---- — GOOSE LAKE — Camanche and Maquoketa closed their regular seasons in high school volleyball by winning a pair of matches each Thursday at the Northeast Quadrangular.

Both squads beat Northeast and Monticello.

“Two games tonight is just what we needed,” said Camanche coach Josh Davis, whose team opens Class 3A regional play Monday at Tipton.

Camanche lost its first game of the night, then won four in a row to record a 16-25, 25-14, 15-8 win against Monticello and a 25-14, 25-14 sweep against Northeast.

“We got off to a slow start,” Davis said. “I think sometimes these girls play so many sports they don’t know where they are. They got better, and I would like to play all night the way they were playing at the end.”

Brettan Hilgendorf had eight kills in each match to lead the Indians (17-11), while fellow senior Libby Schnoor had seven kills against Monticello and eight against Northeast. Hilgendorf also was the leader with 30 digs, including 19 against the Rebels.

“It was the best game I have seen her play,” Davis said of Hilgendorf. “You always know you’ll get a good game out of Libby.”

Kylie Vogel led Camanche with 35 assists.

“We started out not passing well at all, then Lindsey Grams stepped up,” Davis said. “If we get balls in the area to Kylie, she’ll set them up.”

Kelsie French and Julia Moore each had three ace serves.

“I can’t say enough about Kelsie French,” Davis said. “It seemed like when we needed points she stepped up to serve and got them out of system. Julia, too, was serving well.”

Maquoketa improved to 14-21 with a 25-16, 25-15 win against Northeast, followed by a 25-15, 25-18 win against Monticello. The Cardinals also open regional play Monday, facing WaMaC Conference rival Central DeWitt in a Class 4A match in DeWitt.

Addie Oberman had six kills in each match for Northeast (10-17), which entertains Monticello on Monday in regional play. Baylie Parson recorded 20 digs to lead the defense, while Breanne Butler had four blocks.

Erie beats Prophets

ERIE, Ill. — Celebrating Senior Night, Erie defeated rival Prophetstown 25-17, 25-23 in Three Rivers Conference volleyball Thursday.

The Cobert sisters came up big for the Cardinals. Sophomore Rachel Cobert led the way with eight kills and two blocks, while senior Courtney Cobert had a team-high 12 digs.

Karlie Stafford had six kills and two aces for the Prophets (10-19, 4-10 conference), while Shelby Adams had four kills and five digs, and Katlyn Shirley had five digs and two aces.
