LumberKings winthird straight game

CLINTON — A new team came to town, but the result was the same, as Clinton took down the Fort Wayne TinCaps, the third consecutive victory for the LumberKings in Midwest League baseball Friday night.

A night after setting a season high with 14 hits, Clinton matched that tally in a 7-1 victory.

Once again the LumberKings scored in the first inning, this time off of TinCaps starter Pete Kelich (0-2).

Ian Miller led off with a base hit, and after he stole second, league-leading hitter Marcus Littlewood brought him home with a single, his sixth consecutive game with at least one hit. It was the first of three singles for the LumberKings catcher, who has brought his average up to .522.

Carlos Misell (2-0) settled down after he allowed his first run as a member of the Mariners organization in the second. TinCaps cleanup hitter Fernando Perez led off the inning with a double, the first of only four hits surrendered by Misell, and scored on a Luis Tejada sacrifice fly.

Clinton jumped back in front for good with two runs in the third. After Kelich retired Zach Shank and Miller for the first two outs of the inning, four consecutive singles put Clinton in the lead. Littlewood singled and later scored when Austin Wilson singled to shortstop Franchy Cordero, who then threw it away past first base. Tyler O’Neill then knocked in Jack Reinheimer to pick up his league-leading eighth RBI.

The LumberKings added another in the fifth, this time courtesy of a Wilson RBI single, one of three RB’s for the second-round pick. He sits atop the MWL RBI chart at eight, tied with O’Neill.

Misell set a season high in innings pitched for a LumberKings starter at 5 2/3, then handed it off to Mark Bordonaro, who went the rest of the way.

Clinton added one in the seventh, and two in the eighth, as Bordonaro closed out the game for his first save of 2014.

Clinton and Fort Wayne meet again at 2 this afternoon at Ashford University Field, then the series concludes Sunday with another 2 p.m. game
