College Volleyball: AU goes 1-2 on the weekend

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Looking to avenge a home loss Saturday, the 16th-ranked Ashford women’s soccer began a three-game road trip Sunday with a 2-1 win against Aquinas (Mich.).

The visitors wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring twice in the game’s opening eight minutes. Seniors Hollie Babut and Jordan Pisesky struck for early goals, and senior goalkeeper Jessica VanDyke stopped five shots for AU (10-3).

Not even one minute into the game, Babut added to her team-leading goal total when she bolted up the field and beat Aquinas goalkeeper Lindsay Armstrong for her seventh goal of the year.

Pisesky put the host Saints (9-5) in a two-goal hole in the eighth minute, taking a pass from Alicia Tamburro and hammering it past Armstrong for her fourth tally of the season. With the assist, Tamburro added to her team lead with her fifth.

The win came a day after a 2-1 loss to Viterbo on Ashford’s Senior Day and final home match.

On a cold and windy day at South Campus, the Saints fell behind by two goals in the first half before Babut cut the lead in half right before the intermission.

Ashford will return to action Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. match at Grand View in Des Moines.

  • Let the (real) games begin: It's NBA playoff time

Finally, the NBA playoffs are set.

It took the entire season to fill out those brackets.

Overtime thrillers in Memphis and Charlotte, a go-ahead dunk in Oklahoma City to win a game and cap another scoring title for Kevin Durant, plus some good old-fashioned disinterest by Brooklyn ... all that, and more, on the final night of the season was needed before the eight conference-quarterfinal matchups in this season's NBA playoffs could be decided.
