Rockridge defeats Steamers

FULTON, Ill. — Rockridge struck for seven runs in the top of the first inning and beat Fulton 15-1 on Monday in a high school baseball game that ended after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

The loss dropped Fulton to 0-3 on the season.

"We took another big loss, but we did improve," Fulton coach Jayme Farrell said. "Our cutoffs and our bats became a lot better. We're a lot better knowing situations. We had a rough start and a rough end."

The Rockets took advantage as Fulton starter Jack Reed had trouble locating the strike zone. Reed lasted just one-third of an inning, walking five and allowing one hit.

Rockridge loaded the bases as the first three batters reached base on two walks and a bunt single. The first run scored on a groundout to shortstop, then Reed walked Renteris intentionally to reload the bases.

The strategy backfired, though, when Reed walked one batter on four pitches and Isaiah Kistler on five to force in two more runs.

Seth Sanderson replaced Reed and struck out the first batter he faced. Ryan Renteris scored on a balk, Tanner Gillispie singled in a run and Rockridge added two more runs before the inning ending.

The Steamers managed just two hits, singles by Matt Dail and Colin Tichler.

Fulton is back in action today with a game at Sterling.
