IOWA CITY — Central DeWitt (13-18) competed in a two-day tournament in Iowa City, where the Sabers lost all of their games. Over the weekend, DeWitt played Fairfield, Clear Creek-Amana, Dallas Center-Grimes, and Carlisle.
The Sabers lost to Fairfield as DeWitt allowed five runs in the first inning in a 10-7 loss. The Sabers tried to make a comeback in the sixth inning by scoring four runs.
Kalyn Bowen had a trio of RBIs in the game and had two hits. Four different Sabers had two hits in the loss.
Katie Irwin also had a triple.
DeWitt led early against CCA in a 2-1 loss, but the Clippers answered by scoring two runs in the third inning. Hannah Neiman took the loss for the Sabers, allowing just the two runs in seven innings while giving up seven hits. Neiman also struck out five Clippers. Jess Machovec had a two-hit game with the team’s lone RBI.
Dallas Center-Grimes held DeWitt to five hits in an 8-0 game, which were all singles. Brooke Chapman had two hits in the loss to the Fillies.
Neiman and Irwin shared the pitching assignment — both threw three innings apiece, but Neiman took the loss again by allowing three runs on five hits. Irwin was charged with three earned runs on seven hits. Both Saber pitchers each had a strikeout.
Irwin had a double in the 4-1 loss to Carlisle, and the lone run in that game scored for the Sabers came in the seventh inning. Machovec scored that run. Neiman was charged with three runs on eight hits while striking out three Wildcats.
