---- — CLINTON – Remember back in February when Brett Hilgendorf hit a game-winning shot that eliminated Northeast from playoff contention?

The Rebels sure do.

The two will meet up in Class 2A postseason play in softball on July 8 in Goose Lake.

The two have faced each other three times already this season, with the Rebels having the series edge 2-1.

Meanwhile, Clinton faces Dubuque Hempstead in Class 5A play; Central DeWitt and Maquoketa face off in Class 4A action. Both games are on July 10.

Clinton has won five games this season that includes being a perfect 3-0 against Davenport Central. Maquoketa and DeWitt have not yet faced each other this season. Maquoketa has won eight games while the Sabers have won 13 games, but dropped four straight games this weekend in Iowa City.

Easton Valley and Calamus-Wheatland play each other in first round action on July 8 in Class 1A, while Marquette Catholic, ranked No. 12 by the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union on Friday, receives a bye. They’ll play the winner of Springville vs. Midland.

Calamus-Wheatland and Easton Valley have played one another. In a June 11 doubleheader, the two split the twinbill with Cal-Wheat winning the first game, 8-4, then the River Hawks won 4-2 in the nightcap.
