CAMANCHE — Courtney Martens is looking for some teammates to follow her a little more closely this year.
Last year, Martens was the only girl from Camanche to finish in the top 35 at the Big East Conference cross country meet. She finished in 22nd place, covering the course in 17 minutes, 53 seconds.
Martens opened the season Tuesday, finishing in a time of 20:44.56 at the Schoolhouse Open in Clinton.
Megan Hoffman got some experience running in the freshman-sophomore conference meet last year and will try to make a larger impact this season.
The Indians also welcome newcomer Giorgia Peduzzi. She ran the Clinton course in 22:25.48 on Tuesday.
While the Indians don’t have enough runners to score in meets, coach Mark Metzger will try to get them to perform at their peaks individually.
