Boys basketball: Midland handles Prince of Peace

WYOMING — The Prince of Peace Irish hit three 3-pointers in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to take down Midland on Tuesday night in a 53-39 Tri-Rivers Conference boys basketball loss.

Nic Roth had two of the three makes from deep, giving him a team-high 12 points. Lucas Laufenberg had eight first-half points.

Prince of Peace was held to just four points in the third quarter.

Sabers go to 3-0

MAQUOKETA — Trevor Green went 8-for-8 at the free-throw line in the second half to help his Central Dewitt Sabers hold off Maquoketa 59-47 to start the season 3-0.

Christian Wright had four made 3-pointers in the second half helping his 14-point total. The Sabers outscored Maquoketa 38-20 in the second half.

Jon Ernst scored nine in the second half despite playing in foul trouble.

Easton Valley rolls

PRESTON — A 33-point second quarter allowed the preseason favorite Easton Valley to cruise over Calamus-Wheatland 71-39 at home. Craiton Andresen hit five 3-pointers toward his 21 total points.

Calamus-Wheatland scored six in the opening quarter, and just four in the third quarter. However, C-W did push 16 across the board in fourth.

Knights beat Comets

CLARENCE — Bellevue had a frustrating night on the floor, making four field goals in the second half and only scoring 37 against North Cedar in a 71-37 loss.

Jayden Johnson scored 24 for North Cedar, including 16 in the first half.
