---- — PORT BYRON, Ill. -- Prophetstown’s front court took over the scoring load Monday in a 77-31 girls basketball victory that improved the Prophets’ record to 21-2.

Starting forwards Clare Kramer (14 points) and Karlie Stafford (13) led the way as the Prophets won their ninth Three Rivers Conference game in as many attempts. Cydney Westen came off the bench to add 10 points in the winning effort.

Stafford came out firing, scoring nine points as the Prophets jumped in front 18-6 after one quarter. She scored four more in the second period, helping Prophetstown to a 20-point lead at the half, 33-13.

Prophetstown kept the margin around the 20-point mark in the third quarter, then outscored the Rams 33-6 in the fourth. Westen scored nine in the final period, and Kaeli Kovarik and Celya Crane added six each as reserves saw much of the action.

Sydney Mericle led Riverdale with 14 points.

Amboy dumps Erie

ERIE, Ill. -- Amboy raced to a 9-2 lead in the first quarter and never let Erie get back in the game in a 36-20 Three Rivers Conference win Monday night.

“Amboy outworked and played harder than us tonight,” Erie coach Brian Howell said. “They wanted it more.

“It also doesn’t help shooting 7-for-40 from the floor.”

Kennedy Dinges scored 15 points to lead the Clippers, while Rachel Cobert scored seven points to lead Erie.

Maquoketa loses lead

MAQUOKETA -- Bethany Stainbrook sank five 3-point field goals, including three of Vinton-Shellsburg’s five second-half bombs, that keyed a 48-45 comeback victory against Maquoketa in a WaMaC Conference crossover game.

The Vikings trailed most of the first half, including a 10-point deficit midway through the second quarter, and were behind 20-14 at the half. But, they came out firing in the third quarter, hitting three straight 3-pointers in one stretch. The long shots helped the Vikings take a 35-30 by the end of the third quarter.

Maquoketa tried to come back late, outscoring Vinton-Shellsburg 7-3 in the final minute.

The Cardinals hurt their own cause with their free-throw shooting, going 12-for-25 from the line.

Stainbrook led all scorers with 20 points, while Chiara Atienza scored 11 points and Aubree Taylor added 10 for Maquoketa.
